Who We Are

What We Value

The Church is Not a Building
The church is not a building; it’s a community of people becoming more like Jesus. At firstChristian, you will find no perfect people. Instead, you’ll encounter a vibrant, welcoming community of people from all walks of life and stages of faith who are experiencing Christ’s love, being transformed by His power, and seeking to live a full life with Jesus.
It’s About Relationships, Not Religion
Organized religion is not the church. It is a family of people who have accepted God’s offer of life with him through Jesus Christ. God is the God of the second chance who desires a relationship with every person on earth. The life that Jesus gives is meant to be experienced in community with others. We are committed to helping you discover a personal relationship with Christ, and build rich relationships with others.
Worship is Everything
God created us to worship Him with everything we have and everything we are, and wherever His church gathers should be the most exciting place on earth! Be prepared to experience a warm, family friendly, and joy filled celebration that glorifies the Father, exalts the Son, and makes room for the Spirit.
Everyone Has Value in God’s Eyes
We believe the followers of Jesus Christ should be the most compassionate people on earth. firstChristian is committed to being Jesus to others, loving them where they are, just as they are.
Every Believer is Gifted By God to Serve
Every believer has been gifted by God and called to faithfully serve Him. A priority of firstChristian is to help you discover your calling and giftedness, and then encourage, prepare and equip you to fruitfully fulfill God’s calling.
Prayer is Not an Option, it’s a Lifeline
Prayer is a spiritual connection with God, and is vital to anyone desiring to truly know Him. Prayer is also the fuel upon which we depend in order to fulfill our calling. You can expect us to model a great reliance on prayer, and emphasize its importance within the life of every believer.
The Bible is the Word of God
The Bible is the Word of God; it is God’s reliable message to us, about Him and how we can live in relationship with Him. We live, worship, teach and serve together under the Bible’s authority.
We Cannot Out-Give God
God has held nothing back from us; we should hold nothing back from Him. Our ministries are provided for by the generosity of its participants. Generosity is fueled by our gratitude, desire to honor God and accomplish His mission.
Playing it Safe is Risky
There is nothing passive about following Christ; we are not called to be comfortable, play it safe, or do church as usual. In fact, we believe irrelevance is irreverence and “good enough” seldom is. Instead, we are committed to serving God by all available means and in the most meaningful, relevant, and innovative ways. As a church we attempt to make the most of every opportunity to glorify God.

What We Believe

About God
God is the Creator, Ruler, Sustainer, and Redeemer of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal and are one God. God loves us and desires that we have a relationship with Him as His family. Genesis 1:1,26,27,3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14; I John 1:3
About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He returned to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to welcome his people into eternity. Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; John 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13
About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father and Jesus, the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides Christians with the power for living God’s ways, understanding spiritual truth and giving guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a gift, a spiritual ability, to be used to introduce others to God and help believers grow in their faith. As Christians, we seek to live under His guidance and control daily. John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18
About the Bible
The Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is God’s uniquely inspired message to humanity. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living as the Holy Spirit guides us. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; Psalm 119:105,160,12:6; Proverbs 30:5
About Salvation
Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. Salvation is by God alone through Jesus Christ alone. We can never make up for sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can people be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and accept Jesus in faith, God saves us. One accepts Christ as Savior through a process that includes the Biblical model of faith, repentance, confession, and baptism as responses of obedience. Acts 2:38, 8:12, 10:47-48; Romans 5:1,6:23, 10:9; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6,1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26
About Baptism
Jesus commands followers to profess faith in him through baptism. Those accepting Christ repent of sin, confess their faith, and are baptized (immersed) into Him. God promises great gifts to those who unite with Christ through baptism. Acts 2:38, Romans 6:1-4
